Spatial Dimensions of
Socio-Economic Development: A Case Study of Himachal Himalaya,
A.K. Tiwari, C/O Department of Education, HPU, Shimla – 5
Significant
findings of this work are that the average level of agricultural
development of Himachal Pradesh exhibited an increasing trend
during 1980-81 and 1990-91 but thereafter it shows a declining
trend. Inter-district variations in levels of agricultural development
demonstrate a declining trend in the first phase, i.e. between
1981 and 1991 and then an increasing trend in the second phase,
i.e. between 1991 and 2001, thus resembling the ‘U’ shape curve.
Out of the twelve districts, four districts, namely Lahaul-Spiti,
Solan, Kinnaur and Shimla emerged as developed category districts
in agricultural development during 2000-2001 and remaining eight
districts lagged behind in this respect. Further, out of eight
less developed districts, four districts, namely Hamirpur, Bilaspur,
Mandi and Kullu (in ascending order according to the values of
composite indices) were much below the State average.
