Sustainable Tourism Development in Himachal Pradesh, S.P. Bansal, Indus Publishing Company, New Delhi

The report is based on a study conducted in Himachal Pradesh with objectives to study the present tourism trends and scenario in the state; to find out the problems arising and associated with tourism planning and development; to study the profile of tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh; to study how sustainable tourism is helpful in alleviation of poverty; to highlight the key issues for sustainable tourism development through opinion survey and suggest an action plan for the development of sustainable tourism. The findings of the study bring into limelight that tourists mainly visit Himachal for relaxation/holiday purpose and only 16.7 percent of the tourists come for education. Analysis reveals that sustainable tourism development is not possible in the state if it remains the responsibility of government alone. The study identifies a number of problems in developing tourism on a sustainable basis and has come out with a number of recommendations.
