Pradesh, S.P. Bansal, Indus Publishing Company, New Delhi

The report is based on a study conducted in Himachal Pradesh with
objectives to study the present tourism trends and scenario in
the state; to find out the problems arising and associated with
tourism planning and development; to study the profile of tourists
visiting Himachal Pradesh; to study how sustainable tourism is
helpful in alleviation of poverty; to highlight the key issues
for sustainable tourism development through opinion survey and
suggest an action plan for the development of sustainable tourism.
The findings of the study bring into limelight that tourists mainly
visit Himachal for relaxation/holiday purpose and only 16.7 percent
of the tourists come for education. Analysis reveals that sustainable
tourism development is not possible in the state if it remains
the responsibility of government alone. The study identifies a
number of problems in developing tourism on a sustainable basis
and has come out with a number of recommendations.
