Studies on Epigeous and Hypogenous Macrofungi of Shimla, Anand Sagar, Department of Biosciences, HPU, Shimla – 5

The report deals with investigations on medicinal mushrooms including preliminary work on four genera (Cordyceps, Ganoderma, Lentinos, Morchella).  During the study these specimens were collected from their natural habitats and worked out for their macro and microscopic details and brought into pure cultures on different nutrient media.  Cultural characteristics and conditions for optimum growth for each of the medicinal mushroom were also recorded.  All four genera of these medicinal mushrooms have their established medicinal potential in the market.  Present study has recommended a base for more explorative survey to be conducted in future for identifying more medicinal mushrooms being consumed by the tribal and local inhabitants in Himachal Pradesh.
