Investment Behavior of Horticulturists in Himachal Pradesh: A Study of Shimla District, Bal Krishan, S.S. Narta and O.P. Verma, Department of Commerce, HPU.

The study is an insight into the process of transformation that horticulture in Shimla district has been bringing about and its impact on the saving and investment behaviour of horticulturists.  The objectives of the study were to analyze the income consumption and saving patterns of horticulturists and the awareness level of investors with respect to various available schemes.  An attempt has also been made in the study to identify the significant socio-economic variables that influence the investment behaviour of an individual.  It emerged from the study that horticulture had been adopted as a primary/secondary occupation irrespective of demographic and socio-economic characteristics.  Horticulture yield per bigha was found to be five times higher than agriculture yield.  Horticulture was found to be leading to high income and subsequently high saving.  As far as awareness regarding investment decisions is concerned, it came out that majority of the investors are aware of a few investment avenues like bank, post office and life insurance schemes.
