AERC, HPU, Shimla - 5
The report is based on the need to study human-natural
resource interactions and institutional arrangements and valuation
of natural resources from ecological perspectives for their sustainable
use. The objectives were to examine the extent and status of renewable
natural resources in Himachal Pradesh; to study the accessibility
and availability of the renewable natural resources on rural households;
to quantify the dependence of rural household on resources for
their livelihood; the estimation of natural resources and benefits
on sample households and to suggest the potential for conservation
and sustainability of renewable natural resources in consonance
with the rural economy. The study highlighted that in the state,
rural farming households have usufruct rights for timber, fuel
wood, grasses and grazing in the demarcated protected forests.
These rights are also extended to the un-classed forests. The
important water sources in the state are canal, tanks, wells,
tube wells and gravity kuhls were also studied.
