Evaluation and Characterization of Bioactive
Molecules (Immunomodulators and Adjuvants) from Plants in the
Himalayan Region, S.S. Kanwar.
Medicinal plants and herbs are one of the crucial components as
far as the contribution of biodiversity to society is concerned.
Medicinal plants provide meaningful inputs for drugs. In this
study, an effort has been made to find the bioactivity of some
selected medicinal plants. For this purpose Cantharanthus roseus,
Asparagus racemosus, Taxus brevifolia, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Berberis
aristata, Withania somnifera, Bolehrrivea diffusia, Andographis
penniculate asnd Ariaema sp. were selected and screened to identify
presence of immuno-modulating/adjuvant activities. The crude extracts
of these plants were prepared in an appropriate buffered medium
and then screened for bioactivity and their interaction with human
RBCs. The report includes methodology followed to screen the bioactive
components of selected plants, purification, characterization
and identification of the associated properties of the biological
active fractions of the plants. The report encourages the reader
to further explore the biological fractions of the identified
bioactive preparations of two plants namely Asparagus racemosus
and Arisaema sp.
