Ecophysiological Studies on the Seeds of Medicinal Plants of Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh) With Reference to Seed-Base Conservation and Cultivation, Shashi Sharma, Department of Biosciences, HPU, Shimla

Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh is particularly rich as far as medicinal plants wealth is concerned. The report gives an account of district Kinnaur with objectives to study and collect the seeds of medicinally important plants; to determine their physiological status at harvest and to find out intra-specific locality dependent variation in the status of seeds. The study has evaluated the efficacy of different physiochemical and hormonal treatment for removal of seed dormancy and improvement of seed germination performances. The study has recommended the need to develop and implement strategies aimed at conservation and restoration of last medicinal plants. The findings of the study suggest extension of the work towards the understanding of the mechanism of dormancy and germination regulation of medicinal plants.
