The report is based on a study conducted with the objectives to examine the utilization pattern of wild fruits collected by rural households; to examine the contribution of income generation through collection of wild fruits and to study problems in marketing of wild fruits in rural areas. The study has brought out that wild fruits found in high hill zone are a good source of income for households. In the low and mid hill zone wild fruits can be a good source of additional income if they are adopted for cultivation on a commercial scale. The prevailing prices of wild fruits in the low and mid hill zone are very low in comparison to high hill zone. Study has made recommendations that the production, trade and marketing potential of wild fruits can be enhanced by disseminating proper knowledge among the farming communities with respect to their traditional uses, medical importance, cultivation profiles, proper marketing strategies and facilities, establishing small processing units, etc.
