Expert lectures

In its effort to enrich academic atmosphere in the campus, the IIHS organized a number of lectures by eminent scholars.

  1. Overcoming the Water Crisis.
    The Institute organized a lecture on the Saraswati River on June 17, 2002. Dr. S. Kalayanaraman, Director, Saraswati Nadi Shodh Prakalap.

  2. An Overview of Mountains with special reference to Himalayan Region
    On June 3rd, 2004, Prof. T.V. Singh, Professor and Director, Centre for Tourism and Research Development, Lucknow and an eminent scholar on Himalayan Tourism delivered a lecture on An Overview of Mountains with special reference to Himalayan Region in the Conference Room of the Institute.

  3. "Living with Dangerous Animals: Lessons from America"
    David Baron, U.S. based author and journalist delivered a lecture entitled "Living with Dangerous Animals: Lessons from America" on 30th November 2004.

  4. Trends in Scientific Research
    Dr. Vinod Kumar, Senior Scientist from DST, Govt. of India, New Delhi, visited the Institute during December 2004. Role of GIS and Remote Sensing -An Overview

  5. Exploring International Funding
    Dr. O.P. Kamara a former senior professional staff member visited IIHS 19th March, 2005 and interacted with senior faculty of this university on various topics such as Biodiversity, international funding for different projects etc.

  6. Mountain Ecology and Environment
    Prof. T.S. Papola, Director, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, (ISID), New Delhi and a former Senior Staff member of ICIMOD, Kathmandu (Nepal), visited the Institute on 27th June, 2005. He interacted with the members of IIHS on some important
    topics pertaining to Mountain Ecology & Environment.

  7. Expectations and Challenges of Teaching-Learning in 21st Century
    Prof. Amrik Singh, Eminent Educationist, Former Secretary- General, Association of Indian Universities, addressed a gathering of 100 teachers on 5th September, 2005.

  8. Putting People at the Centre of Development
    The Himalayan Study Circle organized a lecture by Dr. H.S. Anand (IAS), Director General, Haryana Institute of Public Administration on 23rd September 2005. The theme of the lecture was "Putting People at the Centre of Development".

  9. Ecology and Natural Resource Management
    Prof. Prem Sankhyan from University of Life Sciences, Norway addressed the faculty and staff of IIHS on 16th December 2005.

  10. Application of GIS
    Mr. Rasik Ravindra, Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India (GSI) was invited by the Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (IIHS) on 21st December 2005 to deliver a talk on the activities of the GSI.

  11. Information and Communication Technology in Higher Education
    The Himalayan Study Circle organized a lecture by Mr. Vivek Sawant, (Managing Director, Maharastra Knowledge Corporation Ltd., Pune) on Building Knowledge Society.

  12. Scope for International Funding - EU Perspective
    Dirk Pottier, Commissioner, EU-Commission spoke about the research support programmes of the European Union Commission.

  13. Using Regression Analysis in Research
    Prof. J.M. Jerath from Punjab University delivered a lecture on Regression and Mediation on 24th March 2006.

  14. Research for Social Benefit
    Prof. Vijay S. Rao delivered a talk in the Institute on 20th April 2006 on Research for Social Benefit.

  15. Integrated Approach to Research
    Prof. Sudhir Bhaskar from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (Deemed University) Puttparti, visited the Institute on May6, 2006. Prof. Sudhir explained the model of integrated development to the IIHS research staff and faculty.

  16. Watershed Approach to Development
    Prof. Dabashish Banerjee from Baba Amte Centre for People Empowerment visited the institute on 14th June 2006. He began his presentation describing the role of NGO - Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS) which is based in Madhya Pradesh.

  17. Himachal, A Road Map to Development: an Outsider's Perspective
    The Himalayan Study Circle organized a lecture on Himachal, A Road Map to Development: an Outsider's Perspective, by Professor Ashish Bose in Bachat Bhavan, Shimla on 29th June, 2006.

  18. The Pathway to Development for South Asia
    On 14th July, 2006, Mr. Asfandyar Wali Khan, president of the Awami National Congress in Pakistan addressed a gathering of faculty from the Himachal Pradesh University and media personalities, organized by the Institute.
